January 20th, Flatbush’s very own radiant Guyanese beauty, Kiola George, also known as “The Flatbush Barbie,” unveiled a delightful surprise for her followers. This enterprising entrepreneur and founder of the esteemed “Good Girlfriends network,” “Girl Lunch podcast,” “Her Vision Board” event club, and “Bijoux 11:11” jewelry, announced that a collaboration where a cocktail named after her Instagram handle would be available every Wednesday at the renowned “The Rum Bar BK.” This establishment, founded by the talented and beautiful Trini-Ethiopian owner, and fellow entrepreneur, Garnett Phillip, was the perfect setting to savor this exquisite pink libation.

When we heard the exciting news it was a no-brainer to support our good gyal. The drink was described as a ‘Bounty spiced rum cocktail with strawberry syrup, guava & Freshly squeezed lime juice.’ This pretty in pink drink was promoted to be accompanied by a side of delectable fish cakes inspired by her Guyanese upbringing.

Although it wasn’t Wednesday, we simply couldn’t resist the temptation to embark on this alcoholic excavation. Upon entering the bar, we were immediately captivated by the vibrant colors and inviting atmosphere, as if we had been whisked away to a charming shack on a picturesque island. The Prussian blue walls adorned with a striking painting of tropical flora and clouds on the ceilings transported us to a blissful oasis. The bamboo and wood-like accents throughout the venue, including the stunning bar stand, further enhanced the tropical aesthetic. Facing the entrance, we couldn’t help but admire the mural featuring the establishment’s name and logo, enclosed in a glass picture frame like a revered triple platinum plaque for all the world to see.

Behind the bar stood a charming, and tall, bartender named Kiyano, who greeted us with genuine warmth and a beaming smile. Little did we know, Kiyano also happened to be the media strategist for “The Rum Bar BK,” the official home of “The Flatbush Barbie.” With our order placed, Kiyano’s grin widened as he skillfully prepared our drink and after his grand showcase of mixological acrobatics, our libation arrived, presented in an elegant martini glass and adorned with a lime garnish.

The drink itself was a revelation, so much so that we couldn’t resist ordering not just one, but two, and nearly a third! The sweetness of the strawberry syrup and guava, combined with the delightfully tangy freshly squeezed lime juice, harmoniously blended with premium “Bounty spiced rum” from Saint Lucia. This nectar, fit for goddesses like Oshun or Aphrodite, was elevated by the Bounty Spice, a rum infused with natural vanilla, cinnamon, and the macerated bark of richeria grandis, locally known as “Bois Bandé.” Legend has it that this bark possesses potent qualities and imparts an exotic and authentic “Lucian” spiced rum experience to aged rum bases. The sweetness of the cocktail was so enchanting that we almost forgot it contained alcohol, a testament to our preference for drinks that exude femininity and grace. Plus, we can’t resist the allure of a tasty bev that sneaks up on you!

Overall, if you ever find yourself in the realm of Crown Heights or seek a fresh and vibrant third space to unwind with a delectable drink, look no further than “The Rum Bar BK” for some amazing island food, vibes, and range of tunes, and don’t forget to indulge in the thirst-quenching collaboration that is “The Flatbush Barbie!”
